What is OpenAI’s Agents SDK?
OpenAI’s Agents SDK is an open source orchestration framework for designing, building, and deploying agents more effectively. Designed to be robust and lightweight, the SDK includes essential built-in tools, like web search, file search, and computer use, significantly enhancing agent capabilities and real-world interactions, and built-in observability tools to track and optimize agent performance. The Agents SDK improves upon Swarm, an experimental framework OpenAI released last year.
The first prototype for AgentKit was initially created in just a few hours using Swarm. It allowed us to easily import all the capabilities of the CDP SDK as tools the agent could use, and helped catalyze the crypto x AI narrative. The Agents SDK allowed us to further improve AgentKit through seamless multi-agent architectures, framework-native guardrails, and better monitoring and debugging.
Unlock Powerful Financial Capabilities for Agents SDK with Coinbase
Coinbase’s AgentKit complements Agentic Frameworks, like OpenAI’s Agents SDK by empowering your AI agents with onchain wallets—unlocking secure, internet-native financial capabilities. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for anyone to build AI agents with built-in payment rails, enabling use cases like food delivery, posting bounties for humans, and earning rewards from decentralized finance (DeFi).
At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom. We strongly believe giving agents the ability to transact is crucial, as most external third-party actions, services, and valuable real-world contexts are gated by payments.
Money serves as an essential bridge between digital intelligence and tangible outcomes, directly tying financial capability to an agent's practical utility. With access to transactional capabilities, agents can autonomously access distributed GPU inference networks, premium data sources, use APIs, purchase services, or incentivize human cooperation—actions essential for efficiently achieving their intended goals.
AgentKit equips your agents with crypto wallets that can be effortlessly funded via Coinbase Onramp, the retail app, or with existing crypto holdings. With these wallets, agents can send money globally, instantly, and without fees or credit/chargeback risk—something the traditional banking system simply can't match. Beyond payments, Coinbase AgentKit also enables your agents to seamlessly interact with decentralized applications and onchain ecosystems, and any USDC held in your agents’ wallets are eligible for 4.1% USDC rewards. Each wallet address can serve as a unique root identifier, critical in multi-agent environments for both discovery and interactions.
