Coinbase Expands Derivatives Access to UK Professional Investors
TL;DR: Coinbase is launching Futures, Perpetuals and Options for professional investors in the UK, with access rolling out progressively over the coming months. Eligible investors can trade over 170 contracts across crypto, commodities, equities, and FX 24/7 with up to 50x leverage. This rollout marks another significant milestone in our global mission to build the world's most comprehensive, transparent, and regulated derivatives platform, and bring our Everything Exchange strategy to the UK.
In traditional finance, financial institutions and corporations routinely use derivatives to hedge exposure, manage capital efficiency, and manage risk. As digital assets become part of the global financial ecosystem, access to these same institutional-grade risk management tools is vital for investors.
The demand for these instruments is clear: global crypto derivatives trading volume routinely reaches 4.4x the volume of crypto spot markets. Yet professional traders across key international hubs have often lacked access to a single, regulated platform for these tools. Until now.
Expanding Derivatives to the UK
The launch of derivatives in the UK, comes after our recently announced MiFID license. The license fundamentally changes what Coinbase can offer UK investors including enabling this launch of derivative contracts.
This launch is part of our global commitment to build a unified, borderless, and fully transparent derivatives ecosystem. It gives professional traders the tools to navigate any market.

2. Dated Futures
Fixed Settlement Dates: Clear expiry dates with no ongoing funding rates; cost-of-carry is priced in directly at entry.
Up to 20x Leverage: Available across commodity and financial contracts.
Seamless Onboarding: Completing onboarding for Dated Futures automatically unlocks perpetuals access.
3. Crypto Options
Underlying market: crypto only
Define your risk, trade volatility, and build strategies beyond simple directional bets
Trade calls and puts, single-leg or multi-leg strategies (spreads, combos)
Payoff diagrams and strategy builder to see profit, loss, and breakeven before you commit
