About GMX
FAQ
GMX, originally launched as Gambit Exchange in September 2021, is a decentralized exchange (DEX) that aims to facilitate the trading of perpetual cryptocurrency futures. It aims to provide up to 50X leverage on various cryptocurrencies. GMX operates on the Arbitrum and Avalanche blockchains, connecting these ecosystems to the exchange via Synapse, a cross-chain bridge. With a total trading volume and a user base, GMX aims to be a participant in the derivatives DEX space on Arbitrum and Avalanche.
GMX employs an innovative approach to the automated market model (AMM) used by other decentralized exchanges. Instead of using an order book model, GMX features a native multi-asset pool, GLP, which aims to generate revenue for liquidity providers. GLP operates as a multi-asset liquidity pool comprising of various cryptocurrencies. Market prices are determined by Chainlink's oracles, which collect token price data. The GMX ecosystem is based on two tokens: GLP and GMX. GLP serves to supply liquidity and its price reflects the value of all GMX assets. GMX, on the other hand, is the utility and governance token of the platform.
GMX offers a unique opportunity for users to engage in leveraged trading of cryptocurrency futures. Users can add liquidity by minting GLP, and in return, they may receive a portion of all fees generated on the corresponding blockchain. This system aims to provide a potential avenue for liquidity providers, as they may receive compensation when traders incur losses. Furthermore, the GLP pool acts as a counterparty for traders, creating a dynamic and engaging trading environment. GMX, as the utility and governance token, allows holders to participate in the decision-making process of the platform, fostering a community-driven approach to development.
GMX was launched in September 2021 as Gambit Exchange. The founding team remains anonymous, with the lead developer known as @xdev_10. GMX operates on the Arbitrum and Avalanche blockchains, both of which offer unique security features. Arbitrum is a layer-2 blockchain that derives its security from the Ethereum network, while Avalanche employs a directed acyclic graph (DAG) protocol for transaction processing and validation. GMX contracts have been audited by ABDK Consulting, and there is an active bug bounty for GMX on Immunefi, which shows the platform's efforts towards security and transparency.
