Toncoin originated as part of the Telegram Open Network, launched in 2018, but was later taken over by the TON Foundation after Telegram discontinued its involvement in 2020. The blockchain’s continued development was led by Anatoliy Makosov and Kirill Emelianenko, members of the NewTON community, who expanded its capabilities beyond its initial vision.
